Financial Aid Eligibility

ENROLLMENT

Students must be enrolled at least half time at UMW to receive financial aid, which is a minimum of 6 undergraduate credit hours per semester for undergraduate programs and 5 graduate credit hours per semester for graduate programs.

Students enrolled in certificate only programs must meet the half-time criteria with coursework that counts toward the completion of the certificate.

FILING THE FAFSA

File the FAFSA on or before March 1 for fall and November 1 for spring to be considered for all types of financial aid. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to file on-line.

Award notifications will be mailed by mid March to all first-time students who file on-time and for whom UMW received valid results from the FAFSA.  Continuing students will be notified by UMW email in May.

Federal tax transcripts are required from students (and their parents for dependent students) selected for verification if they did not select the IRS retrieval option when completing the FAFSA .  Supporting documentation that has been requested by UMW must be submitted on or before June 1.

Students who do not file the FAFSA by the published dates and whose files are incomplete on June 1 will be considered late filers and have their awards canceled. Scholarship and grant aid that is canceled will be awarded to other eligible students.

Late filers may still receive student loans for fall provided their files are complete by November 1. The final date for completing files for spring loans is March 1.
