2011-2012 Financial Aid Information And Forms

(Fall 2011, Spring 2012, Summer 2012)

Students must be enrolled at least half time at UMW to receive financial aid, which is a minimum of 6 undergraduate credit hours per semester for undergraduate programs and 5 graduate credit hours per semester for graduate programs. Additionally, students enrolled in programs with two eight week terms per semester must enroll in both terms to be eligible for financial aid.

NEW STUDENTS FOR FALL 2011 and SPRING 2012

File the FAFSA by March 1 for Fall and November 1 for Spring to be considered for all types of financial aid. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to file on-line. Federal 2010 tax returns are required for all first-time aid applicants and the parents of dependent students. Award notifications will be mailed by April 15, 2011 to all first-time students who file on-time and for whom UMW received valid results from the FAFSA. Supporting documentation that has been requested by UMW (such as tax returns) must be submitted before June 1 for students to retain the financial assistance that was awarded.  The office of Financial Aid starts mailing Spring award notifications in mid-November.

CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENTS

  • File FAFSA by March 15
  • Submit required documentation when requested (by May 15)
  • Review Satisfactory Academic Progression Policy
  • Fall awards for students with complete files mailed mid-to-late June
  • Check Financial Aid website, UMW Eaglenet Portal, and e-mails regularly for updates

Students who do not file the FAFSA by the published dates and whose files are incomplete on June 1 will be considered late filers and have their awards canceled. Scholarship and grant aid that is canceled will be awarded to other eligible students. Late filers may still receive student loans for fall provided their files are complete by November 1. The final date for completing files for spring loans is March 1.

To be considered for endowed scholarships, most of which are need-based, students must also complete the Scholarship Application Form and submit by May 15 for Fall consideration.

Students enrolled in courses at the Stafford Campus need to read the ‘Stafford Campus Financial Aid Supplement’.The 2011-2012 document may be found by clicking on Financial Aid Information and Forms for the appropriate aid year in the menu on the left side of this page. The 2012-2013 document will be added in March, 2012.

SUMMER 2012

In addition to submitting 2011-2012 FAFSA, on or before May 1, read and complete Summer Request Form available Mid-March. June 1 is the final date for a file to be complete for summer aid.
