Compensation

The University of Mary Washington recognizes that employee talent is our greatest asset.  Our goal is to develop and support a high quality workforce that provides exceptional service, in a fiscally responsible manner by:

  • Administering compensation management practices and decision-making procedures that ensure internal and external equity, transparency and sensitivity to market conditions.
  • Promoting desirable features of the University’s employment and emphasizing total compensation for recruitment and retention.
  • Administering salaries, counter/competitive offers, position reviews, overtime issues (FLSA), pay adjustments.

UMW actively seeks to attract, hire and retain an accomplished, diverse workforce supporting a multitude of programs engaging faculty, A/P faculty, classified, wage and contracted part-time employees.  Human Resources provides consultation to managers and supervisors, recognizing that compensation plays a critical role in this process.  This site provides information to assist managers in understanding pay practices and position classifications in support of their requests and needs.
