In limited cases, departments may engage other part-time contracted personnel, using employee agreements, to perform specified duties in exchange for agreed compensation. Examples include Graduate Assistants, James Farmer Scholars, Student Transition Counselors. Athletic Assistants, and Assistant Coaches. The provisions of the UMW Employee Handbook for Administrative/Professional Faculty, Classified and Wage Employees that pertain to wage employees also pertain to these employees, unless explicitly excluded. Normally hired for limited terms, per semester or full academic year contract. Pay is usually on a stipend basis determined by industry rate and budget.
All part-time contracted positions are subject to FLSA guidelines (Exempt/Non-exempt Status), and therefore, must be entered into careers for review and approval by Human Resources.
