2012 Spring Submission Deadline for In-band Salary Adjustment Requests

The deadline for Spring 2012 in-band request submissions is Thursday, February 29th by 5pm.  Requests must be signed by all the necessary parties and submitted to Human Resources no later than 5:00 PM on the 29th.  You are encouraged to submit requests early so that there is time to review and to make corrections if necessary.

 January 2012: Mid Year Reviews

Supervisors of administrative and professional faculty are required to provide employees with a mid-year review. Guidance on this process is available in Mid-Year Cycle Review Section (Part IV) of the Guidance section of Administrative & Professional Faculty Work Planning & Performance Appraisal policy found on the Human Resources website.

The mid-year review provides an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to understand how work is progressing and to identify areas that need to be addressed. It is also a time to ensure that the appropriate development opportunities and resources have been identified.

Employee Separation

If an employee is leaving UMW or transferring to another department, don’t forget to let HR know. To refresh your knowledge on separation procedures for all employees, take a look at the steps outlined in the Supervisor’s Handbook: Employee Separation Procedures

Supervisor Approval of Certification, License, and Degree Requests

The next deadline for CLD bonus approval is January 31, 2012. As a reminder, when requests come to supervisors for approval, please utilize the checklist to determine whether or not certain certifications, licenses, or degrees qualify. Some CLD Checklist from the checklist that may be helpful to you when making the determination.

Updates to UMW overtime and compensatory leave policy/ required FLSA Training for all supervisors

The online course provides general information on FLSA and the application of the act in terms of overtime and compensatory leave. The UMW policy provides specific guidance on how the requirements of FLSA should be applied in our University operations. There are a few points of clarification between the course and our Policy. These include:

  • The University workweek extends from 12:01 a.m Monday through midnight on Sunday.
  • UMW prefers to pay for overtime hours worked instead of the earning of overtime leave.5: WOW Card Request Process Revisions

WOW Cards

Great news—based on feedback we have received from supervisors and employees,the value of the green Works of Wonder (WOW) card is now $35!

The suggested criteria for your Cabinet are available on the recognition website at the link provided below. The number of cards available for each Cabinet area is proportionate to the number of employees in each area. The procedures have been adjusted slightly this year to include a convenient online request form. The procedures to request WOW cards are as follows:

  1. Review the recognition criteria for your Cabinet area.
  2. Complete the online request form.
  3. A notification will be sent to you letting you know if your request has been approved and when you can pick up the card(s). Generally, cards will be available within 2 business days of approval.
