Temporary Employment

Temporary employment is staffing provided through contracted temporary staffing agencies.

Temporary staff is hired to assist with departmental objectives. Temporary assignments are established

  1. For a specific project;
  2. To relieve employees who are absent due to sickness or injury, leave of absence, vacation or holiday relief or;
  3. To augment the regular work force of employees that may be due to increased work loads or other conditions that may create short-term staffing shortages.

Length of Temporary Employment

Temporary staff may be hired for an unspecified period of time (i.e. 2 day/ 1 week/ 3 month assignment).

Budget Impact

Temporary employees are paid from of each department’s operating budget. Each vendor accepts the Small Purchase Credit Card (SPCC) for payment. If you have questions regarding the impact of temporary labor on your budget, please contact the Office of Budget and Financial Analysis (BFA) at 654.1018.

Contractor Payment

Temporary employees are paid every week by the selected contractor. Supervisors or designees sign a timecard to approve hours per week, rate of pay, and permission to charge the SPCC.

How to Hire a Temporary Employee

  1. Contact BFA to determine if funding is available.
  2. Identify an eVA buyer to process the electronic request.
  3. Complete the Request for Temporary Personnel Form
  4. Complete an eVA request and attach the request form to the eVA order. NOTE!! The eVA purchase order for Temporary Services in not entered as a “normal” order request and must be entered exactly as written.

  5. If you would like the temporary employee to have access to NetID, e-mail account, EagleOne, etc., please complete the Temporary/Volunteer Information Sheet and forward to Paula Wilder to pwilder@umw.edu on or before the employee’s first day of work.
  6. The Recruitment Manager (RM) will review the request via eVA and coordinate the new hire of the temporary employee.
