- Follow UMW guidelines for Classified, Administrative, Hourly, and Faculty searches as outlined in the Supervisor/Manager Guide.
- Make sure that the Employee Work Profile (EWP) or position description is current and up-to-date with the duties and requirements necessary for the position now.
- Make sure you are clear on the salary range and benefits applicable to this position. If questions, contact the Office of Human Resources.
- Decide on a selection committee.
- Screen applications with pre-approved (if necessary) screening criteria.
- Determine top candidates to be interviewed based on scores on screening sheet. This should be checked by the Recruitment Manager.
- Finalize interview questions with HR approval (if necessary).
- Schedule interviews (inform candidates of expected length of time).
- Arrange for adequate space for interviews and make sure selection committee is on time and setting exemplifies UMW in a positive light.
- Distribute interview questionnaire to all on selection committee.
- Agree upon how candidates will be rated and who will be responsible for which questions.
- Go over the legal responsibilities the university must follow when conducting interviews (i.e. avoid personal notations). See the next section for more detailed guidelines
- Let the interviewee look over the Employee Work Profile (EWP) if he/she needs to wait a few minutes before coming into the interview.
