A/P Faculty with Teaching Faculty Rank

Current Teaching Faculty Selected for A/P Faculty Appointments

Any member of the teaching faculty of the University who accepts an administrative appointment at the University for a time and then returns to the teaching faculty retains the rank and tenure s/he had at the time the administrative appointment was accepted.

The rate of pay for a person returning to the teaching faculty will be determined as follows:

  • If the teaching faculty member serves in the A/P faculty position for less than one year, he/she will return to the base teaching faculty salary he/she had at the time of accepting the A/P faculty appointment plus any teaching faculty raises for which the person would have been eligible that might have occurred during the time of the person’s A/P faculty appointment.
  • If the teaching faculty member serves in the A/P faculty position for one to three years, he/she returns to the teaching faculty at whichever of the following that is higher: (a) 60% of the final A/P faculty salary or (b) the base teaching faculty salary he/she had at the time of accepting the A/P faculty appointment plus 10% plus any teaching faculty raises for which the person would have been eligible that would have occurred during the time of the person’s A/P faculty appointment.
  • If the teaching faculty member serves in the A/P faculty position for more than three years, he/she returns to the teaching faculty at a salary that is 75% of the final A/P faculty salary.

A/P Faculty Appointments with Academic Rank Made to Persons Hired from Outside UMW

Academic rank (and tenure) may be awarded upon appointment by the Board of Visitors to a newly appointed administrator from outside the University whose qualifications and prior experience warrant it.

When A/P faculty with academic rank who were initially hired from outside UMW leave their administrative position to join the academic unit as a full-time teaching faculty member, the person’s salary as a member of the teaching faculty will be calculated as follows:

  • If the person serves in the A/P faculty position for less than one year, he/she will join the academic unit at the average of the base salary for all persons in that academic rank in the department and/or the college (at whichever is higher).
  • If the person serves in the A/P faculty position for one to three years, he/she joins the teaching faculty at a salary that is 60% of the final A/P faculty salary.
  • If the person serves in the A/P faculty position for more than three years, he/she joins the teaching faculty at a salary that is 75% of the final A/P faculty salary.
