State Classified Employee Grievance Procedure

This section applies to classified employees.

The grievance procedure is a process through which classified employees can bring workplace concerns to upper levels of management. This process is more formal than mediation and requires that rules be followed strictly. The Grievance Procedure Manual lists the rules that must be followed. Failure to follow these strict procedures will forfeit your right to this process.  The Manual can be found at: https://www.dhrm.virginia.gov/employment-dispute-resolution/grievance.

Policy 4.05, Civil and Work-Related Leave provides for employees to use a reasonable amount of work time to pursue these remedies. Resolution step meetings, grievance hearings and meetings with DEDR counselors may generally be charged to Civil and Work-Related Leave.

Grievance procedures for A/P Faculty are in the A/P Grievance Policy and Procedure section of this handbook.
