Dodd Auditorium offers fixed seating for 1237, within the balcony and orchestra levels. The orchestra level seats 915 with 10 handicapped spaces for wheelchair placement and the balcony seats the remaining 322. This venue has served as host to many events which include the UMW Philharmonic concerts, the Great Lives Lecture Series, the Lip Sync Contest, Mr. UMW Contest, PAC Dance Concerts, and many other Department of Music and student run events. On average, over 200 events are held each year in Dodd Auditorium.<\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1887\" height=\"1255\" src=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/files\/2020\/04\/2017-bal-view.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35728\" srcset=\"\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/files\/2020\/04\/2017-bal-view.jpg 1887w, \/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/files\/2020\/04\/2017-bal-view-300x200.jpg 300w, \/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/files\/2020\/04\/2017-bal-view-1024x681.jpg 1024w, \/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/files\/2020\/04\/2017-bal-view-768x511.jpg 768w, \/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/files\/2020\/04\/2017-bal-view-1536x1022.jpg 1536w, \/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/files\/2020\/04\/2017-bal-view-690x459.jpg 690w, \/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/files\/2020\/04\/2017-bal-view-465x309.jpg 465w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1887px) 100vw, 1887px\"><\/figure>\n<\/div><p>Dodd Auditorium opened on January 11, 1940, with a concert by the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Hans Kindler.<\/p><p>During the summer of 2005, the seating and decor of Dodd Auditorium had a major renovation. The original seats (1215 seats) on the main floor were replaced with wider and more comfortable seats obtained from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C, reducing the seating to 915. Another major improvement was the installation of 17 large bright chandeliers which offer our audience members a more patron-friendly atmosphere. In addition to making our patrons more comfortable, the entire audience chamber was refurbished to emphasize the architectural details of the auditorium. Dodd Auditorium had a new sound and AV system, as well as a T-track counterweight rigging system install. Other improvements included a new lighting and sound booth in the balcony, which reduced the seating to the current 1273 seats, new stage curtains, and all new lighting instruments and lighting console. These improvements will allow for a more professional quality to events housed in Dodd Auditorium.<\/p><p>Dodd Auditorium is located in George Washington Hall. George Washington Hall is found inside the main gates of the campus, off College Avenue. More information on rentals is located below <a href=\"#outside-community-rentals\">(2. Dodd Rental Procedures –  <strong>Outside Community Rentals<\/strong>)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Once a request has been submitted, it will either be “approved” or “denied” by the director of Dodd Auditorium. Each requestor will receive an email from the director confirming the booking or an explanation of the denial (see “Reasons for Denials” below).<\/p><p>Booking Priority<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Requests for <strong>current<\/strong> academic year – decision is based on the date of the requests<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requests for the <strong>next<\/strong> academic year – is tiered based and are not allowed until the spring semester of the current academic year\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>January<\/strong> – Administrative Events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>February <\/strong>– Departmental, Faculty and Staff Events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>March<\/strong> – Student Organizations and Club Events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>May<\/strong> – Outside UMW Organizations Events<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Reasons for Denials:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Date or time requested is not available<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Food is involved<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No technical staffing is available<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dodd Auditorium is not the appropriate venue for your event<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organization, club or event does not fit within our community value statement of ASPIRE<\/li>\n<\/ol><p>Any questions concerning booking Dodd Auditorium should be sent to the director of Dodd Auditorium – Douglas Noble at <a href=\"mailto:dnoble@umw.edu\">dnoble@umw.edu<\/a>.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dodd Rental Procedures <\/h3><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UMW Organization\/Department\/Club Rental<\/h4><p>There is no rental\/user charge to any organization, department, or club that is affiliated with UMW unless the following incidents occur:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No shows\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No cancellation notice – if the client does not notify the Dodd Auditorium Staff within 24 hours of the scheduled event that the event has been cancelled– a charge of $100 will be assessed to the clients FOAP.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change in stated arrival time – If the arrival time that the client has submitted on the <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a> moves to later and the Dodd staff is not notified within 24 hours prior to the event, the Dodd staff will assessed a late fee of $35.00 for each half hour past the stated arrival time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Damage occurs during the event – if any lighting\/sound equipment, seating, or stage equipment\/curtains are damaged during the event, caused by inappropriate behavior on the part of the participants or the audience, the client will be assessed a damage fee based on a quote received from a reputable vendor on the cost of repairs.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Including but not limited to:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>breaking of auditorium seating caused by people standing\/jumping on seats or purposeful destruction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ripping of seat cover fabric – caused by sharp objects or purposeful destruction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Damage to soft goods (curtains, cyc, screen, or scrim) on stage cause by careless or reckless behavior<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No food or drink policy is broken – if audience members sneak food or drink into the auditorium that results in spillage or smeared food on the floor, seats, or carpet, the client will be assessed a cleaning fee. This fee could range from $35.00 to $275.00 depending on the extent of the damage.<\/li>\n<\/ol><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"outside-community-rentals\">Outside Community Rentals<\/h4><p>Dodd Auditorium is open for rental to non-UMW affiliates during UMW’s spring break (usually the first week of March) and between mid-May through mid-July. The space is reserved during the academic year for events supported\/sponsored by the UMW community for the benefit of their programs. Rental of Dodd Auditorium is limited to events that require a minimum number of support staff.<\/p><p>The following is a list of the events that Dodd Auditorium is open to for rentals:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lectures\/panel discussions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One or two person shows\/comedians\/magicians<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Concert bands\/orchestras<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business meetings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Movies<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>If your event meets the above criteria, then you must contact the director of Dodd Auditorium at <a href=\"mailto:dnoble@umw.edu\">dnoble@umw.edu<\/a>, to discuss possible rental dates and your planned event. Once the director of Dodd Auditorium determines the scope of the event, a date may be determined; it will be placed on “hold” until a signed contract is returned to the university. Contracts are handled through the <a href=\"https:\/\/president.umw.edu\/events\/\">Events and Conferencing Office<\/a>. Rental fees are based on predetermined space charges and on labor costs per staff member required to support or run the event.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tech Riders <\/h3><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Dodd<\/strong> Auditorium <\/h4><p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a> is required for ALL events to take place in Dodd Auditorium. The <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a> must be submitted at a minimum of three (3) weeks prior to the first day of your event\/rehearsal. The <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a> is used to determine the number of staff needed to run the events, date and times of arrival, departure, and duration of event, stage set-up, and the type of equipment that will be needed to run the event.<\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a> can be located on the Dodd Auditorium webpage which can be accessed through the UMW homepage and type “Dodd Auditorium” in the search box. This will take you to the Dodd Auditorium webpage and located on the left side of the page will be the link to the <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a>. Please remember to submit your request after you have filled it out. You should receive a confirmation email, once the form has been submitted.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UMW Sponsored <strong>Outside Group Tech Riders<\/strong><\/h4><p>When a UMW department or group sponsors an outside group or individual to perform in Dodd Auditorium, they must supply a copy of the performer’s technical rider (if they have one) with the request to book Dodd Auditorium. This is to insure that the Dodd Auditorium staff can handle the outside groups requirements and if not to allow the sponsoring club\/department a chance to either negotiate a change in the technical rider, before the sponsor has signed the contract; or to hire an outside sound or light company to supply and run the event according to the groups technical rider. It also makes sure that there are no surprises at the time of the performers’ arrival for the event when the sponsoring group has agreed to something that Dodd Auditorium cannot support.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Piano <\/h3><p>Dodd Auditorium has a concert grand piano available for clients to use. However, clients will be responsible for having the piano tuned at their expense. Piano tuning is arranged through the music department. If you are a campus department or club you will need to supply the music department with a FOAP; if you are an outside organization, you will need to supply a check to the music department for the cost of the tuning.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dressing Rooms\/Restrooms <\/h3><p>Dressing rooms may be requested for use for any event (<a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a>). It is up to the sponsoring organization to return the dressing rooms in the same or better condition than when they found them. A housekeeping fee will be assessed to the sponsoring organization if this guideline is not followed. Dodd has three dressing rooms; two have the capacity to hold 10 performers and one has the capacity to hold 4 performers. There is a male and a female restroom located next to the dressing rooms to be used by performers and Dodd staff.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scenery\/Props\/Equipment for Events <\/h3><p>Dodd Auditorium does not supply any props or scenery for any events.  Any props or scenery that is brought into the auditorium for your event must be taken down and removed immediately after the event.  This includes any signage.<\/p><p>Dodd Auditorium has a few stackable chairs and 3 or 4 folding tables that can be used by our clients for their events.  Please request these on the <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a> in the “other” section at the end of the form.<\/p><p>Any large equipment or musical instruments that are brought into the auditorium for an event must be removed by the following business day after the event.<\/p><p>Dodd Auditorium does not have storage space available for storage of any items.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Staffing <\/h3><p>Dodd Auditorium is a student run facility with limited resources. All events will be supplied with at least one Dodd Auditorium technician to assist with the event. In most situations, the minimum number of technicians will be four (4); a sound operator, a light operator, a stage manager, and a house manager. Additional staff will be determined by the scope and size of the event, and based on the needs listed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a>. All equipment in Dodd Auditorium will only be handled by Dodd Auditorium technical staff. The sponsoring organization may be asked to supply additional staff to assist with the handling of the performers or running of the event, this will be determined prior to the event. One Dodd Auditorium technical staff member must be present during the entire time that the sponsoring organization is present in the Dodd facility.<\/p><p>ALL events must supply ushers if programs are to be handed out and\/or assigned seating is sold. The Dodd Auditorium house management staff have other duties and will not be available for this task.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Front-Of-House Procedures<\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Food and Drink Procedure <\/h3><p>There is no food or drink allowed in the auditorium for any reason. Food and drink are allowed in the Dodd foyer and the dressing rooms only.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dodd Foyer<\/h4><p>Food and drink in the foyer can be served prior, during, and after an event under the following conditions:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Food and drink are provided by Sodexo Catering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volunteers from the sponsoring organization are assigned at the entrances to the auditorium to prevent food or drink from entering into the auditorium.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volunteers from the sponsoring organization are assigned to clean the auditorium after the event is complete, to remove any food or drink items that are present.<\/li>\n<\/ol><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dressing Rooms <\/h4><p>Food and drink are allowed in the Dodd dressing rooms for the performers under the following conditions:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>NO ALCOHOL is present. Alcohol is not permitted under any circumstance – violation of this policy could result in the cancellation of the event, police involvement, and\/or reporting the incident to the Judicial Review Board.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fulfillment of the performers\/groups contract as part of their technical rider under the “hospitality” section.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performers are in rehearsal\/show for more than 5 hours without any breaks.<\/li>\n<\/ol><p>All food and drink must be removed after the events and the dressing rooms must be cleared of all containers, cartons, and serving devices immediately after the show. Failure to do so could result in the assessment of a $35.00 cleaning charge to the groups FOAP.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ticket Sale Procedure <\/h3><p>All tickets and staffing of a box office will be left to the task of the sponsoring organization. If an admission fee is collected by a student club or organization, they must follow the “Cash Collections and Deposits policies” located in the Student Club Handbook. This policy determines if a police officer is needed in the Dodd foyer while tickets are being sold. Any cost related to this policy will be incurred by the sponsoring organization. Dodd Auditorium staff are not allowed to handle or collect any money.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seating <\/h3><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seat Removal<\/h4><p>Due to the amount of wear and tear on the seats and their supports, seat removal is prohibited as of Nov. 1, 2015.<\/p><p>The only exception: The UMW President gives written approval directing the Director of Dodd Auditorium to remove seats for a specific event and the organization requesting removal of seats agrees to pay a seat removal charge of $500 per row\/section to be paid to the general fund, and any additional damage fee while the seats are removed.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Seating<\/h4><p>Dodd Auditorium has 1267 seats. All seats are numbered and all rows are lettered for reserved seating. There are currently 909 seats on the main (orchestra) floor, and 358 seats in the balcony. There are also 10 spaces on the main floor for wheel chaired patrons. Of the 358 balcony seats, 72 of them have an obstructed or blocked view of the stage.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pipe and Drape <\/h3><p>Pipe and drape are available in Dodd Auditorium to be used to limit the seating capacity on the main floor. Blue is the only available color. Pipe and drape must be requested separately from the <a href=\"https:\/\/adminfinance.umw.edu\/dodd\/tech-rider\/\">Dodd Auditorium Technical Rider<\/a>, by way of an email to the director of Dodd Auditorium. The request will be discussed between the client and the director to determine feasibility of the request. If time and staffing does not allow for set-up and take-down, then the request will be denied.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Music Playlists <\/h3><p>Music playlists need to be supplied to the Dodd Auditorium staff a minimum of 30 minutes before the house opens. All music selections must be appropriate for any age group. Playlists need to be supplied on a USB memory stick. Internet music providers such as Spotify or Pandora are not allowed because of copyright laws. Dodd Auditorium has classical, pop, and soft jazz playlists available, however, the client will not be allowed to edit or change these playlist in any manner. The Dodd staff is not responsible for the timeliness of the music selection in the Dodd playlist.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safety and Emergency Protocols<\/h3><p>All UMW Safety and Emergency Procedures will be adhered to regardless of sponsoring organization.<\/p><p>No standing, dancing, or sitting in the aisles while the performance is in progress will be allowed. Due to the possible safety implications, this policy is strictly enforced and audience members who violate this policy will be requested to return to their seat by the house managers. If incident continues, UMW Police will be called and the patron will be removed.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Special Effects<\/strong><\/h3><p>The use of any pyrotechnics or fire\/flames\/sparks will not be permitted in Dodd Auditorium.<\/p><p>The use of fog or haze machines will not be permitted in Dodd Capabilities<\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dodd Auditorium is a student run facility.<\/h3><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The student staff are all trained by the director of Dodd Auditorium on basic theatre operations. If you cannot work with student whose experience range from novice to pre-professional and treat them with dignity and respect, then you do not want to book an event in Dodd Auditorium. There is no “call list” available for professional staff who have any experience in Dodd Auditorium.<\/li>\n<\/ol><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dodd Auditorium is not a road house.<\/h3><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dodd Auditorium is not equipped to handle medium to large road shows. Dodd Auditorium has very limited backstage space and the dressing rooms are not ADA accessible.<\/li>\n<\/ol><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UMW Community Value Statement is followed.<\/h3><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As a public, liberal arts university, the University of Mary Washington community is dedicated to providing a diverse, accepting, and supportive environment that holds all of its members to the highest standards of conduct, scholarship, integrity, inclusiveness, respect, and engagement. As faculty, staff, and students of the UMW community, we are committed to upholding these common values\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>A<\/em><\/strong>ccountability – we promote practices, behaviors, and attitudes where individuals take responsibility for their actions and decisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>S<\/em><\/strong>cholarship – we promote intellectual inquiry by engaging ideas and one another in order to gain better understanding and contribute to knowledge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>P<\/em><\/strong>ersonal and Institutional Integrity – we are honorable in our academic and work endeavors as well as our interactions with others.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>I<\/em><\/strong>nclusive Excellence – we strive for all members of the community to have equitable access to opportunities for participation and the resources necessary for success.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>R<\/em><\/strong>espect and Civility – we foster an environment in which every individual is treated with dignity at all times by valuing the inherent worth of all identities, abilities, and differences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>E<\/em><\/strong>ngagement – we develop engaged members of our community who actively participate in the community through responsible leadership and service.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All programs in Dodd Auditorium will be held to these values.<\/li>\n<\/ol><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Specific Limitations of Dodd Auditorium<\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Power Disconnects <\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One – DSL – 200 amps 3 phase with cam-lock connectors – traditionally this is for external sound hookup<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One – DSR – 175 amp 3 phase with cam-lock connectors – this disconnect is located behind the dimmer rack and beside the stage manager’s panel – access is limited<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lighting <\/strong>– Use existing plot or hire outside lighting company<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dodd Auditorium uses a rep lighting plot to light over 100 events per year. This plot however does not light the UMW Philharmonic stage extension (6′ x 32′) that is added for UMW Philharmonic concerts. This stage extension is too far DS for lights to reach it from the stage electrics and there are not enough circuits in FOH to add a front light wash for the extension.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limited specials available for refocusing – consult light plot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>FOH has very little power available in the form of circuits\/dimmers\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Cove (opening in ceiling in front of the stage where the front light is located) has a total of 9 circuits – lighting from cove can hit the UMW Philharmonic stage extension, but front light has to be taken from some other place on the stage and refocused<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Balcony rail and the box booms at the balcony share 6 circuits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Box boom position angles are not good for musicians on stage, as the angle is very shallow – almost straight on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The house light plot is available upon request<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the house light plot is <strong>not acceptable<\/strong> – then an <strong>outside lighting company<\/strong> must be hired with trussing as house light plot will not be struck for your event, but will be flown up to 22′ above the deck. Outside light plot must be a self-contained system with their own control board<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The only DMX ports to access the house lighting system is located in the balcony light\/sound booth or backstage at the dimmer rack. <strong>There are no DMX ports<\/strong> locate at the back of the house on the orchestra level. Outside lighting companies will need to run DMX to their lighting console.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wireless DMX has been used in Dodd Auditorium with unsatisfactory results<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The house light board – ETC – ION, will not be dismantled to accommodate external console at the house lighting\/sound booth. Placement of lighting console <strong><u>must<\/u><\/strong> be approved by the director of Dodd Auditorium prior to load-in. Any blocked seating must be approved by the booking organization and removed from seating chart prior to tickets going on sale.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The follow spot booth is located in the back of the auditorium – 100′ from the stage. Due to the placement\/angle of the booth, following a performer into the seating area is not possible past row “D”. Any patrons who stand up in the front row of the balcony will\/can block the follow spots light from hitting the DS portion of the UMW Philharmonic Stage Extension<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dodd Auditorium has 2 Robert Juliet “Alex” followspots<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sound<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dodd Auditorium is equipped to handle basic audio reproduction. Our mic inventory is limited to SM57 & SM58.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dodd sound console is a 32 channel console – Behringer X32<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If house audio is not acceptable – then an outside audio company must be hired<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Outside audio companies will <u>not<\/u> be allowed to tie into the existing house audio system.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outside audio companies must supply all components for sound system (speakers, stands, microphones, mixer, amps, cables, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rigging <\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dodd Auditorium does NOT have a load rail to load weights – all balancing of linesets must be accomplished by adding weight incrementally to the system from the flyrail – out of weight lineset will <u>not<\/u> be permitted for the run of show.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Items that weigh more than 200 lbs will <u>not<\/u> be allowed to be hung from the Dodd Auditorium fly system\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are NO pick lines in the auditorium to fly any rigs – all lighting or sound equipment in FOH must be on lifts from the floor or stage level<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stage\/Backstage\/Storage Area<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stage is basically 35’w x 20′<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to basement is located in the US corners – SL\/SR from backstage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Very limited storage space available backstage – house items must remain on stage and cannot move out of building (some items can be moved to touring truck for temporary storage for duration of event)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>SR stores\/houses\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dimmer rack<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage manager’s rack<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Concert grand piano<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choral risers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stacks of chairs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SL stores\/houses\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Orchestra shell<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Band risers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Storage hamper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Storage of lighting booms and large podium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is no storage facility attached to Dodd Auditorium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is not an elevator available from stage to house level. If touring company does not travel with functional lift gate on the end of the truck to lower FOH equipment to street level, then touring company MUST provide ramp to go from stage level to house level.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Handicap lift from stage to house level is available for disabled person use ONLY.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dressing Rooms\/Restrooms<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dressing rooms and restrooms for men and women are located in the basement under the stage. This area is <u>not<\/u> ADA accessible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dodd Auditorium has five rooms available to be used as dressing rooms\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>#1 – 9′ x 9′ room – often used as production office<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#2 – 9′ x 18′ room – star dressing room – divided into two rooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#3 & #4 – 9′ x 18′ rooms – chorus dressing rooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>#5 – 9′ x 9′ space plus 8′ x 8′ sound proof practice room – often used for hospitality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restrooms – one women’s and one men’s<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>The director of Dodd Auditorium is not a representative of the agency who booked the venue. The director of Dodd Auditorium serves the interest of the university. They do not handle hospitality of any kind – any issues with hospitality or catering needs to be addressed directly with a representative of the booking agency.<\/p><p>All seating\/tickets are handled through\/with the booking agency. Dodd Auditorium is a student run facility reserved for university events during the fall and spring semesters. Hence, Dodd Auditorium is only available for rentals during a limited time frame with a limited scope or size of the event.<\/p><p>Currently, Dodd Auditorium is only available during the following times:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mid-May – July<\/strong> – Dodd Auditorium is available one week after graduation until the end of July<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Due to the limited size of staff that is available during the rental time frame, we have to limit the size of events that can take place in Dodd Auditorium.  The following are types of events that can be easily supported at this time:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lectures\/panel discussions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One-person shows\/comedians\/magicians<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Concert bands\/orchestras<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business meetings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Movies<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Other options – There are rare occasions when Dodd Auditorium is available for rental during the academic year for larger events, based on the type of event. Please contact the director of Dodd Auditorium at <a href=\"mailto:dnoble@umw.edu\">dnoble@umw.edu<\/a> for information.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-rental-fees\">Rental Fees<\/h3><p>The rental fees include the use of the dressing rooms (2), backstage, foyer, and in-house sound, lights and stage equipment. It does not include labor costs. The following is a breakdown of the rental fee:<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>One day rental with 1 performance<\/td><td>$3500.00 per day *<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Additional performances (same day)<\/td><td>$600.00 per day *<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Rehearsal only (no performance)<\/td><td>$1400.00 per day *<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Any event past midnight (including strike)<\/td><td>$600.00 per day *<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure><p>* Special rate for non-profit organizations upon request<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-labor-costs\">Labor Costs<\/h3><p>At least one Dodd Auditorium employee must be present at all times when client is in the space. The number of Dodd Auditorium staff and hours will be determined by the director of Dodd Auditorium. Additional labor cost could include police or security guards, housekeeping, or other UMW trade employees.
