Goolrick Pool Maintenance
The pool in Goolrick Hall is closed beginning Monday, March 18, 2024, for renovations extending through the summer. It is anticipated to re-open in the fall 2024 semester for the start of fall sports and activities. This much-needed maintenance and repair work will prolong the useful life of the facility, which serves as the home for UMW’s conference champion varsity swim teams, as well as Campus Recreation’s club swim team, and a variety of special programs.
The Goolrick pool was previously closed in the summer of 2023 for evaluation and mechanical repairs, and had some system repairs in 2018, but has not been significantly renovated in more than 20 years. The most recent evaluation determined the plan for renovations, which will improve the quality of the pool for swimmers and for staff. It will allow for a more efficient operation of the pool, including maintaining the water temperature and chemical balances. A newly tiled pool deck is also part of the plan, and at the conclusion of this stage of the project, swimmers and staff are expected to have an improved experience when the pool reopens.
Summer camps and events have also been notified of the pool closures. Anyone seeking alternative pool locations can contact Campus Recreation for recommendations. The Fitness Center, auxiliary gym and main gym, along with primary locker rooms remain open. Additionally, we encourage patrons to take advantage of a variety of group fitness offerings viewable here.
