Roof Renovation at Seacobeck Hall<\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

Weatherly Wing Roof Renovation at Seacobeck Hall<\/h2>

The roof work for the Weatherly Wing in Seacobeck Hall has been completed by spring break and the space will reopen for weekend scheduling.<\/strong><\/p>

About the Project<\/h3>

Beginning the weekend of November 15, a contractor will be on campus to repair the roof above the Weatherly Wing in Seacobeck Hall. This work is limited to one wing of the building and will take place only on weekends and winter break to reduce the disruption to classes and other activities in the building during business hours. Seacobeck Hall is open during this roof renovation project, and the Weatherly Wing is available during the class schedule. Weekend availability will be limited during the roof repairs. <\/p>

The project is expected to take several months through at least February. The noise from this work will be similar to other roof projects, both on campus and residential. 

We appreciate your understanding as we repair this section of the roof in this beautiful performance space and lecture hall to keep it safe from water and other elements.<\/p>

The nearly 100-year-old structure had been damaged from water intrusion, with major foundation and roof issues that made it too costly to repair. The demolition of Brent House opens the pathway to extend Campus Walk to the new theatre. While we will be removing several trees at one time, it will ready the site through grading for the extension of Campus Walk.<\/p><p>Several tree species will be saved for reuse. We are working with local vendors on options for using the wood from trees for upcoming projects on campus and in the Fredericksburg region.<\/p><p>We also have a full landscaping plan for the new theatre, creating a backdrop for the building and a gathering area at that corner of campus. In order to best meet the needs of our campus community, priorities and regulations have been established for snow and ice management. Safety is our first priority when allocating resources. With many miles of campus walks and roads, it typically takes our staff several days to address main priorities following a winter storm. Snow and ice management is a program responsibility of the Landscape and Grounds division, but critical support duties are assigned to personnel through nearly all of Facilities Services and snow contractors. If you notice delayed response times and routine tasks not being accomplished, it is because snow and ice management has taken a higher priority.<\/p><p><strong>PLEASE EXERCISE PERSONAL CAUTION WHEN WALKING OR DRIVING IN WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. HAZARDOUS AREAS MAY DEVELOP OR PERSIST EVEN AFTER REMOVAL EFFORTS OR CHEMICAL TREATMENT OF SURFACES.<\/strong><strong> THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR GOOD JUDGEMENT.<\/strong><\/p><p>Note: The Stafford Campus and Dahlgren Campus, are covered under individual programs. Snow and ice management at these locations, as well as Eagle Landing and the UMW Apartments, is accomplished through contracted vendors.<\/p><p>In general the snow and ice management priorities are:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emergency vehicle access<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Main entries to Residence Halls<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to and from Residence Halls to the Cedric Rucker University Center (CRUC – resident dining) via main walks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Main entries to Academic and Administrative buildings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to Academic and Administrative buildings via main walks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faculty\/Staff and commuter parking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Residential student parking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Event support<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>We realize the importance of our students and faculty\/staff arriving safely at their destination.<strong> UMW faculty\/staff and students are encouraged to wear proper footwear for snowy and icy conditions, and to plan on taking extra time and alternate routes to reach destinations.<\/strong> Detailed snow\/ice control priorities are attached. Please use these priorities when planning your travel on campus. Notification of a Snow Emergency declaration will be by email from UMW <a href=\"https:\/\/in.umw.edu\/university-communications\/\">University Communications<\/a>. Details in these emails are critical and may supersede prior information.<\/p><p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ebfc15d1c0d288f0161aaa5abb198771\" style=\"color:#f81717\"><strong>To facilitate the clearing of roadways, n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">o vehicles are allowed to remain in Snow Emergency Areas after 10 p.m., or as otherwise announced.<\/span><\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Under Snow Emergency Parking declarations<\/strong> t<strong>he following areas will close at 10:00 PM, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> or as otherwise announced <\/span>and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">remain closed until further notice:<\/span><\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Top level of all parking decks: Alvey Drive and Eagle Landing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alvey Drive Hill<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outside (right side) parking inbound and outbound Double Drive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marshall Hill <\/li>\n<\/ul><p>ACCESS TO THE ALVEY PARKING DECK WILL BE FROM THE<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> SUNKEN ROAD GATE<\/span> VIA WILLIAM STREET TO SUNKEN ROAD. THE SUNKEN ROAD GATE IS LOCATED ON SUNKEN ROAD BETWEEN GROVE AVENUE AND MADISON STREET.<\/p><p><strong>No vehicles are allowed to remain in Snow Emergency Areas after 10 p.m., <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> or as otherwise announced<\/span>.<\/span><\/strong> <strong>No student vehicles are to be parked in any Faculty\/Staff parking lots.<\/strong><\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>“Snow Emergency Areas” include:<\/strong><\/p><ul style=\"background-color:#5485a33d\" class=\"wp-block-list has-background\">\n<li>Faculty\/Staff lots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commuter parking lots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pizza Hut\/Thornton Street parking lot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Double Drive – BOTH sides of inbound and outbound<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cedric Rucker University Center Lots – no overnight parking is allowed in handicap spaces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Top level of all parking decks (Alvey Drive and Eagle Landing)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All driveways\/roadways on campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><strong>Any vehicle on University property interfering with snow removal operations is subject to towing at any time during the snow emergency declaration at the owner’s expense.<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">This includes any UMW assigned  Service\/Pool Vehicles and golf-carts for all departments and contractor vehicles <\/span>that are left unattended\/overnight on campus. Vehicles may be moved to the following locations:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sunken Road lot #13 – located outside the Alvey Drive Parking Deck<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Battleground lot #33 – located on Hanover Street<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>The Faculty\/Staff lots, Commuter parking lots, Pizza Hut parking lot, CRUC parking lots, and Double Drive – left side of inbound and outbound, will reopen at 7 a.m. the morning following the Snow Emergency declaration <em>unless the University is declared closed or moves to a delayed opening<\/em>. Under either of these conditions, all Snow Emergency Areas will remain closed to parking until the University officially reopens. Notification of student lot closings will be by email. During this period students will be allowed to park in designated Faculty\/Staff lots until 7 AM. Vehicles remaining in student lots are subject to being ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.<\/p><p>All designated handicapped parking spaces, except those at Woodard Campus Center and the CRUC, are exempt from Snow Emergency Regulations.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-3829c3d0baf10d03cb9a487e24424374\" id=\"h-winter-break-snow-removal-policy\" style=\"background-color:#bed7eaa3\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>WINTER BREAK SNOW REMOVAL POLICY<\/strong><\/span><\/h3><p>During the official faculty\/staff Winter Holiday, snow\/ice removal plans and priorities will be modified. Snow removal for vehicular access to buildings for emergency response will commence with snow accumulations of 4″ or more.<\/p><p>Buildings occupied by during this time will be provided with snow and ice melting chemical, abrasives and shovels.
