The Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) has provided guidance regarding a state-wide bonus effective May 25, 2026. All UMW classified, A/P faculty, full-time teaching faculty, and wage employees are eligible to receive this bonus as described below:
Classified Staff
- Classified staff hired on or before February 25, 2026, and remaining employed as of May 25, 2026, will receive a $1,500 bonus effective May 25, 2026, provided they received a rating of “Contributor” or satisfactory on their last performance evaluation or more recent interim evaluation.
A/P Faculty
- A/P faculty hired on or before February 25, 2026, and remaining employed as of May 25, 2026, will receive a $1,500 bonus effective May 25, 2026, provided they received a rating of “Contributor” or satisfactory on their last performance evaluation or more recent interim evaluation.
Bonuses for both classified staff and A/P faculty will appear in paychecks beginning June 16, 2026. Please refer to June 2026 UMW Bonus FAQs for information about employees working fewer than 12 months annually.
Full-Time Teaching Faculty
- Full-time faculty hired on or before February 25, 2026, and remaining employed as of May 25, 2026, will receive a $1,500 bonus effective May 25, 2026. (Full-time faculty are considered actively employed through August 15.) Bonuses for teaching faculty will appear in paychecks beginning June 16, 2026.
Wage Staff
- All wage staff hired on or before February 25, 2026, and remaining employed as of May 25, 2026, will receive a bonus effective June 1, 2026. Bonuses for wage staff will appear in paychecks beginning June 26, 2026, and will be based on the total hours worked for the year prior to February 25, 2026. See June 2026 UMW Bonus FAQs for details.
Deferred Compensation
Part or all of the bonus may be deferred, subject to relevant plan guidelines and limitations. Please see June 2026 UMW Bonus FAQs for detailed guidance to enroll in or change contribution amounts for the 403b Pre-tax Annuity.
