UMW Landscape and Grounds
Stroll down Campus Walk or relax in an Adirondack chair on Ball Circle and see for yourself why UMW is known for its stunning urban forest areas and lush green spaces. Our campus is a testament to the beauty of nature and the dedication of our team. We believe that our green spaces are essential to fostering a sense of community and well-being on campus. From providing a space for students to relax and recharge to supporting local ecosystems, our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
Our UMW Landscape and Grounds team of dedicated professionals is committed to preserving the beauty, character and health of our exterior campus landscape. With primary responsibility for maintaining the 234-acre campus, we provide turf, shrub, tree, plant and waste management services, as well as snow removal for the main campus. Additionally, we are responsible for landscape oversight of our satellite campuses in Stafford and Dahlgren.
Student Employment in Landscape and Grounds
Have spare time in your class schedule? Make it count! Student Employment on campus is beneficial because our supervisors understand students are students first. Landscape and Grounds supervisors allow flexibility around class schedules to accommodate their academic studies. This assists the student in focusing on their academic success while obtaining real world experience…from the ground up.
We offer opportunities for UMW students to work part time (up to 12 hours per week during the school year, ) assisting the L&G crew with recycling collection and monitoring efforts. Under the direction of Grounds staff, students may also branch out to perform/assist with basic grounds and landscaping maintenance.
Visit the UMW Student Employment website or Email Jessica Bailey, Campus Recycling Coordinator, for more information.
