The Finance Departments handling the financial management of the University of Mary Washington strive to effectively manage the University’s financial resources in a way that will maximize support for the University community while providing proper stewardship of public assets.

If assistance is needed in making purchases of goods and services, in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures, please contact the Procurement Services Department.

Finance Departments are responsible for all financial transactions and reporting for the University, the James Monroe Museum and Memorial Library, and the Gari Melchers Home and Studio. The Finance Department also handles Grant Management reporting, including all Federal, State, Non-State (local) and private funding received by the University.

Our goal is to provide appropriate services and assistance to members of the University community (faculty, staff and students) in an accurate and efficient manner, utilizing the technical resources available to the University. Emphasis is placed on customer service and personal integrity which, along with our commitment to the policies, procedures and laws of the Commonwealth, create an environment leading to the successful operation of the University. This is strongly reflected in the Code of Ethics adopted by all Finance Departments.

The Finance Department operates in accordance with the Virginia Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedure (CAPP) Manual and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The University and Museums are audited once a year by the Auditor of Public Accounts (APA) and the Virginia Department of Accounts (DOA). The University’s audited financial statements are available for review in the Financial Management office’s section on Reporting.
