Accessible Parking

ACCESSIBLE PARKING STATE ISSUED LICENSE PLATES AND HANGTAGS

The use of a valid state issued accessible hangtag or license plate gives that vehicle authorization to park in any accessible parking space in any UMW parking areas at any time, even in the event of a lot reservation. Visitors do not require a UMW permit for one time/one day parking. However, all others do. Whether faculty, staff, or student, accessible vehicles may park in any lot type, regardless of permit type.

Accessible permits may only be used for and/or by the persons to whom the accessible hangtag or plates was issued to.

Accessible parking is NOT PERMITTED where stopping, standing, or parking is prohibited to all vehicles, or which is reserved for specific types of vehicles. Neither does it apply where parking would clearly present a traffic or safety hazard.

Photocopied or altered accessible hang-tag permits are NOT VALID.

UMW ISSUED ACCESSIBLE HANGTAG:

UMW does issue an on campus accessible hangtag for parking purposes. This hangtag is good only on the UMW campus and is not acceptable anywhere else.

Students, faculty, and staff can apply for the UMW Accessible Hangtag and after meeting the following requirements:

  • The Parking Management Staff is available to speak to Students, Faculty and Staff about parking accommodations and support. Please contact us during our office hours Monday through Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM.
  • Faculty and Staff request for temporary accessible parking accommodations will be made to Human Resources. HR will notify Parking Management of the need for accessible parking.
  • Accessible authorization will also come from the Office of Disability Resources (ODR). Authorization from ODR is for students that will need long-term use of the accessible parking. The ODR will notify Parking Management of a student’s need of accessible parking.
