Virginia 529 Saving for Higher Education

Fellow state agency Virginia529 partners with other state agencies to educate employees about saving for higher education for their children and grandchildren through a tax-advantaged 529 savings account. Our VA529 representatives will facilitate an employee webinar on Wednesday, May 17, from 11 am to 12 pm.  This program helps empower employees to save and to minimize or avoid student loan debt in the future. Contributions grow free from federal and state taxes when used to fund qualified higher education expenses. Virginia residents may also deduct up to $4K per year per account from their Virginia taxes based on contributions to a Virginia529 account. Mary Washington Healthcare to Leave Anthem Network in First Quarter 2023

Unless an agreement is reached, Mary Washington Healthcare has notified Anthem that they will no longer participate in the Anthem network after February 28, 2023. This means that starting March 1, 2023, employees may pay more for care they receive from Mary Washington Healthcare doctors and facilities. Some employees’ benefits may continue to cover care from Mary Washington Healthcare at the same level for a limited time on or after March 1. This coverage will apply if employees are receiving ongoing treatments, have a procedure scheduled, or are admitted to a Mary Washington Healthcare hospital. Employees may contact the Member Services number on their ID card for more information. Anthem has also sent a letter to impacted members during the first week in January 2023. Anthem offers a broad network of doctors and healthcare facilities throughout Virginia. 2021-22 Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA) Grace Period

In an effort to meet the needs of our employees during these extraordinary times, the Commonwealth is adding a Grace Period to the 2021-2022 DCFSA Plan year (7/1/21-6/30/22), which will extend the period to incur claims under the DCFSA until October 31, 2022. The Health Care Flexible Spending Account will NOT have a Grace Period for the 2021-2022 plan year. We are including FAQs related to the DCFSA Grace Period, which will also be included on the DHRM website 2022 Open Enrollment page. DCFSA Grace Period Q & A Q1. What is a Grace Period? A1. A Grace Period is a predefined timeframe after the plan year ends that enables participants to spend down any remaining funds from the previous plan year. Q2. How does this apply to state employees?
